AFR Customer Testimonials
I'm George Anderson. I now co-own, build and drive the 1968 ex-Jr. fuel dragster (attached) you helped us with in the past. You recently sent us some replacement poly-locks and I'm overwhelmed with you and your staffs support so, I'm writing you this letter.
The 220 heads you freshened for us are still running strong! We run the NE1 (7.60) class with a 401 ci. SBC. Unfortunately in our business few acknowledge when a manufacture actually cares about their customers. I and my team want you to know that you are very much appreciated. The amazing thing is that your products and service deliver beyond expectation. My friends as well as myself are overwhelmed with the performance and dependability the heads we purchased from you and the quality of your maintenance.
I believe you set a standard beyond the norm today.
Please commend yourself and your staff for their professionalism. I wish and hope to be able to use more of your products in the future.
As of December last year we lost Larry Waite, our team owner to a heart-attack. Our first race without him was this weekend and it was hard. The perk from you with the poly-locks reminds me of the purpose and hope to continue racing as I love to do.
Thank you very much. It means a lot,
P.S. The pic is the winner circle at Kingdon Drags in Lodi. We are Champions there 3 years in a row with your heads...
I love my AFR 205 small block Ford cylinder heads! You can't find a better head as far as quality, performance and price. The quality of your cnc work is excellent! Compared to your competitor's cylinder head which I'd been running for about 8 years I picked up from 11.20's at 120 to 10.70's at 126mph with my 10.9:1 pump gas 347 small block. I literally took them out of the box, blew them off with compressed air and bolted them on. Thank you for a great product!
- Brian Correll
First off, I would like to tell you how impressed I am with the quality of cylinder heads that AFR designs. Last year I placed first in the normally aspirated section of the Brothers Performance Dyno Shootout with a combination using your heads. The success of that engine was all in the cylinder heads.
I am now running a 342ci with a set of AFR 205cc aluminum cyilnder heads, herbet cam, and 11.3:1 compression ration. I believe this combination to be worth 420 rwhp. I want to stand out and say that AFR made this possible.
- Mark Savoia
I wanted to let you know we ran our first eliminator 195cc set on one of our 500hp 383 street engines that we have always used the 195 heads on. Tests were run between 2800 rpm to 6700 rpm, showing an average increase of 28 hp and 27 ft lbs of torque. With your old style 195cc we got a 502 hp @ 6100 rpm and 520 ft lbs @ 4600 rpm. The new eliminators ran 538 hp @ 6100 rpm and 540 ft lbs of torque @ 4300 rpm. We did notice a broader range of power and torque with the new heads. Thanks for the great looking and performing product.
- Gail Trent
I just finished dyno testing your new part #1054 210cc Eliminator heads on my carbureted 412 cid SBC hill climb engine. The heads were as delivered 'out of the box' from K-Kustom. C.R. was 14:1. Holley 750 cfm 4500 Dominator on a Super Victor manifold. Solid roller ISKY cam, 272/280 degrees @ .050" with .630" lift. At 3000 rpm the engine developed 475 ft-lbs of torque which is enough to accelerate my formula 5000 at 1.3 Gs off the slow hairpins, and by the time 4800 rpm rolled around it was showing 576 ft-lbs which would increase acceleration to 1.6Gs. Average HP between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm was a staggering 504.5. The 412 averaged 630.33 HP from 6,000 rpm on up to 7000, hitting a peak of 653.8 HP @ 6600. I also tested a shorter but higher lift cam where the engine made a ridiculous 522 ft-lbs at 3,000 rpm and touched 600 ft-lbs at 5,000 rpm. Peak HP was 628, also @6,600 rpm.
While most would aknowledge AFR's high flow characteristics I was astonished at how efficient the new combustion chambers were. Maximum timing was only 36 degrees and BSFC averaged a scant .355 lbs/Hp-hr between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm. Even the EPA would like this engine. I've never written a testimonial to a manufacturer before, but these cylinder heads sure got my attention -- and that of a few others as well. Even the normally lack-luster workers in the shop who routinely heard racing engines on the dyno came running into the dyno room when they heard this engine's unique scream. Unfortunately the people across town also heard it and complained to the police. I had to wait quite a spell for these cylinder heads but they were worth the wait and are quite a bargain in terms of what they can do. Historic/vintage racing requires a period look thus negating 18 degree or SB-2 type heads. I doubt if any other head could have achieved similar results, no matter its configuration!

When I choose to up the HP on my small tire 1967 Camaro street/strip car I selected AFR 305cc cylinder head with CNC chambers. The previous LS-7 454 BBC combination, with mildly ported GM rectangular ports, ran a best of 1.44 60 foot, 10.60 @ 125.59 in 600' Density Altitude. With only 30 passes to date, the 3525 lb 454 based combo has now gone a best of 1.35 60 foot, 9.83 @ 136.01 in 900' Density Altitude, naturally aspirated, footbraked, and on 9" tires. These cylinder heads are responsible for a large part of the ET improvement.

Well here's the story:
Using a stock block with a cast steel 347 stroker, AFR 185cc cylinder heads, comp cam XE282HR, EFI spyder intake, 36 lb injectors, nos cheater plate 150 shot. This motor has spun over 7000 rpms for 3 years now with no tricks to the bottom end and has survived over 400 runs now with this simple build that anyone can put together. I never believed that I had the potential to go so fast with a relatively small cylinder head and a stock block but the power that these heads produce is second to none. This is not a gutted race car and still weighs 3030 lbs and retains the stock front k member and a arms with 4 cylinder springs. Thanks AFR for making such a well designed product. I can't wait to see what they will do with some boost and a real block.
- Nick Mancuso
I just purchased a set of AFR 165cc SBF cylinder heads and I just wanted to let you know that I have never been more impressed with a purchase for my 87 Mustang GT. The quality of the port work, fit and finish was more than superior. I must say at first I was a little leery of the price tag, but the representative from one of your dealers assured me it was worth every penny.
I must say that he was right. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into your work. It puts you a notch above your "competitors". Thanks again from a customer for life.
- Russell Jones
I would like to thank AFR for designing and delivering a spectacular product. I was simply amazed at the out of the box performance of the Mongoose 225cc cylinder head. My 347ci LS6 produced 630 HP @ 6300 RPM with your heads, procharger D1SC (8 PSI), stock LS6 intake manifold and stock throttle body.
- Jason Zajac J & J's Speed Shop
With your SBF 185cc cylinder head and 15 lbs of boost, we made 733 HP at 6000 RPM along with 658 ftlb at 5500 RPM. I'm sure that this kind of power could not be obtained with any other "out of the box" aluminum cylinder head. Thank you very much for the great product.
- Tor Ingebrigtsen
Congratulations, you have the best Big Block Chevy cylinder heads on the market, I've tried them all. I can't find anything wrong with these Big Blocks...and I’m looking hard...its ten times better than your nearest competitor!
- Jeff Beseth
I picked up almost 2 tenths with your AFR BBC 357 Heads [over the CNC Dart Heads] in the 8th with less gear (430 vs. 410) and the 60 ft. dropped from 1.28-1.22 - all this in a 2600lb car with one stock 4 barrel. You now have a customer for life.
- Brian Wells, Wheels Up Racecars
Every aspect of your SBF 165cc cylinder head was perfect! ...This was one of the first heads that needed NO work out of the box. AFR was very friendly and helpful, not only over the phone but on e-mail as well.
I am a proud owner and user of your SBF 165cc non-emission heads in my 1965 Ford. I love the 165cc ford heads, and I wish I had a set of aluminum valve covers that let everyone know clearly that I run AFR aluminum cylinder heads. Thanks for making great products and helping the aftermarket thrive.
- Jason Terhune
We have just finished testing a few SBC cylinder heads on our engine dyno and we had to contact you guys and tell you what a great job you have done...The highest reading recorded with your heads were 738 HP @ 7400 RMP and 632 ft lbs @ 5850 RPM. Your heads made an extra 44hp and 56 ftlb above all others (Top Lines, Iron Eagle 215, Brodix Track 1) with great mid to upper increases. I am needless to say impressed with your cylinder heads.
- Brian Cassar, Moe Race Engines
AFR aluminum cylinder heads are unbeatable in terms of quality, performance, and most importantly value. I love not having to send the head out to have it ported, and paying porting/shipping costs. The best part is the over 1,000 flywheel horsepower and likewise torque, with a set of Box Stock AFR 205cc SBF. Also, I didn't have to deal with the funky valve train geometry that needs to be corrected like in some of your competitors’ heads. Thank you for providing me with a superior cylinder head that costs less.
- Mike "Gonzo" Gonzales
My '71 Camaro, Pump Gas 434 Street Car, runs a 9.61 in the 1/4 at 138 MPH. In addition, it carried the front wheels in the air past the 60' and still hit a 1.33. My set of AFR 227 cc race ready heads are a big part of this package and produce incredible performance.

Thanks again, without your heads this would have not been possible
- Troy LaCrone
I received the package today containing the replacement cylinder head gasket. It made it here in perfect shape. I wanted to tell you that you guys have top-notch customer service and a superior product! I could not be happier with my purchase. I speak highly of AFR to anyone who will listen and will continue to send you guys potential customers.
- Jason J. Enclade
Thank you for sending me the replacement valve seals for my cylinder heads. It's good to know that there are still companies out there that stand behind their product. Do you have any stickers that I could possibly buy for my car?! Thank you for the excellent product and superior customer service.
- James Hilton
Previously, the car had 1994 merlin 310`s that were cleaned in the bowls and gasket matched, previous to AFR heads the car would usually 60` in the low 1.5`s. 1/8 mile best was 6.5`s and 1/4 best was 10.20`s. It would make about 138 mph normally and with a 150 shot would dip to 9.8`s and usally trap 142-143 mph. After the heads it now 60`s in the low 1.4`s and commonly is in the mid 1.3`s depending on the track conditions; 1/8 mile is now 6.2 and 1/4 is 9.81 after 15 passes and mph has jumped to 144 on motor. No2 passes have jumped to 9.30`s with a best of 149.3!!
This car is a third gen camaro and has a race wieght of 3480 and is on a 10x29 inch hoosier slick. The short block is a 496 with a .730 lift roller using a 276@ 50 duration 284 ex. It`s using 2 1/8 primaries to a 4 inch collector and has a 1090 demon on a dart intake Ronnie Sharp ported. The value of the heads to the performance they have provided is astounding to say the least, I have to guess they have provided at least 100 HP over the merlins easily. It was easy to contact you personally and my questions were answered swiftly which was very appreciated.

We had talked at the S.E.M.A. show about my 1966 Chevy II, with a 383 S.B.C. The engine consists of a Eagle rotating assembly with a 6 inch H-beam rod, 12.8/1 compression, Crane cam with 625 lift, 260/270 duration, and A.F.R. 210 Eliminators. The best E.T. is a 10.37 @ 129mph (corrected), with no power enhancers. Best of all this car is still registered and plated. The A.F.R. 210 Eliminators are an incredible item. They deliver awesome throttle response throughout the entire R.P.M. range. They are well built, a very attractive item, very affordable, and deliver excellent power. I can't say enough about this product and I am 100% satisfied. I would recommend this item to anyone.

Thanks for making such a quality product! With a pretty simple combo that I have put together in a 10 X 20 garage this car has been drivin on the street 100% to this day Including a full exaust with tailpipes. The combo is a 342 inch r302 block with an eagle rotator, AFR 185's direct from AFR with the Ed Curtis spring package and custom solid roller. I have now gone a new best time of 8.59 at 163. Thanks Again for all your help! These heads just seem to have unlimited potential!!
Previously, my car was going 10.89 with a set of GM double humps that had been worked pretty extensively. A valve seat came apart and trashed several pistons. I rebuilt the engine with the only change being a set of your heads. Same cam, ignition, intake, converter, transmission, gears, tires, everything was re-used. I did not even adjust the carburetor. My first run was 10.53, followed by a 10.62, and then a 10.58. All of which were off of the foot brake without stalling it up on the converter at all. I think I can go much quicker. Maybe 10.40 with a little tuning, better burnout, and launching at a higher rpm on the trans-brake. That would be an improvement of almost a half of a second. I can't say how pleased I am. Thanks for a good product and your people have been helpful when I've had questions.
- Jerid Jackson
AFR went out of their way to supply all parts/gaskets needed to repair the problem. They also paid for the R&R of the heads. Just like to publicly thank these guys for going above and beyond my expectations to fix this issue. Their effort made the purchase of these heads one of the best things I have invested in on my vehicle.
- Billy Woods
As an engineer, I am in the business of finding flaws in design and manufacturing and correcting them. The SBF AFR 205cc head is excellent in both design and machining quality, as well as having unbelievable "out of the box" performance. The first time out with our new engine the car went 10.27 @ 133.9 off the trailer!!!! Not bad for a naturally aspirated 347 cubic inch engine backed by a 5-speed manual transmission, weighing 3000 lbs. Words are great, but videos speak for themselves!!
- Steve Webb
Every time I send an e-mail I get a quick professional response. It's always nice to deal with a company that acts like they want your business, instead of like some that just want your money.
- Mark Rapp
I just wanted to say that I am very impressed with your cylinder heads. I have a 14:1 434 in a 3460lb nova and I drive it to the local car shows every weekend with my family in the car. To make a long story short I ran a 10.03 at 132.46mph on motor. Thank you for making a 23 head that performs so well.
- Donald Drury
It's been a few months now since I installed a set of box-stock AFR 165's (#1472) on the efi 5.0L motor installed in my 1982 Volvo 242. I replaced a set of Ford Racing Y303 aluminum heads and couldn't be morepleased with the results. The quality of the AFR heads is superb. From the very first drive it was evident the change had paid off handsomely. A smoother idle, much better throttle response and best of all, noticeably more umph all across the rev range - from idle to peak. Before the change, the car routinely got 16.5-18 mpg while driving it in and around the Charlotte metropolitan area. My last three tanks -- same geographic area and same driving style - have netted 19.1, 19.3 and 19.4 mpg!! The car routinely got 25-26.5 mpg on the highway before the swap -- I'm hoping the increase in efficiency/torque at cruising rpm (2000-2400) will let me eek above 27 mpg --- not bad for something with the 'aero' of a brick and performance that surprises everyone!!! Thanks for the great product -- job well done.

I wanted to share the latest achievements of our turbo Mustang and the AFR 225 heads. Inn 08 we ran 7.68ET at 185 MPH with 29 PSI of boost. We started off the 2009 race season with the new heads running 23.5 PSI of boost and were able to achieve the same 7.60's but with a soft tune-up. We were ecstatic to know that the car was making the same power yet at a lower boost level. This soft tune-up was enough to qualify at Milan Dragway in the no. 2 spot for the 10.5 outlaw class. Then the following weekend at Mid-Michigan Motorplex we were able to qualify no. 1 in addition to winning the 10.5 outlaw event. To our amazement, with 26 PSI of boost the car ran a new best of 7.48 at 198 mph.
Our success wouldn\'t be feasible if it wasn\'t for AFR heads and for the AFR's employees. From day one AFR has provided excellent customer service, that was willing to spend the time to support our questions and even listen too our requirements. This means a lot to customers and many times is overlooked by companies that are selling services to the general public. The part quality was far beyond our expectations. Just from the little details that were done during the assembly phase all the way down to the machining of the product. For instance, many times we find that with the Commetic head gaskets they don't like to seal well without having a cylinder head that has a perfectly flat deck. Which the typical head isn't good enough after being machined; well this isn't the case with the AFR heads. Once we received the new heads, we verified the flatness of the deck and to our amazement the AFR product was ready straight out of the box.
Because of our increase in performance and being able to compete at the larger venues, we are starting to have track and event personal requesting for our presence at future racing events.
Thank you for the time and efforts,
- Jeff Harrington - Saywhen Racing
